THE
MORNING THE TORNADOS STRUCK
Our
hearts go out to all of our fellow Villagers and area neighbors
who have lost
loved ones and experienced property damage from the
tornados that hit Florida.
We have documented some of the destruction
and you can find photos and video
on TheVillagesGuide.com by using the
above links. Please use our images to
see what's happening in our community
instead of giving in to the urge to venture
into the damaged areas.
One of the great things about living in The Villages
is the care and
attention to detail that our community officials take to keep
our environment
beautiful. With that said, please avoid the areas that were
damaged to allow
that work to begin. There is broken glass and sharp metal
everywhere. It is very
easy to forget to pay attention to your footing or where
you are driving while
taking in the destruction.
We were very proud
to see our representatives out in force already helping
our neighbors pull
together the pieces. Roofs are being tarped, fallen trees
removed, and roads
and driveways cleared. As you will see from the photos,
even after experiencing
injury & severe damage to their homes, our Villagers
still have a smile
and vibrant spirit.
If you would like to get involved, we recommend contacting Volunteer Florida
using the link at the top of the page. They
are a great resource that is dedicated
to matching volunteers and resources
to help with disasters such as the tornados
that hit Florida.
Finally,
The Villages has set up a hotline devoted to matching up victims
who were displaced
by the storm with those who want to offer their homes
for shelter. You can
find this information & more by using the Important
Local Information link above.
